Number of popular initiatives by parliamentary term 1960–2007

Definitions/Comments: Initiative: A proposal for a constitutional amendment or a new constitutional article is subject to popular vote if the proposal is signed by at least 100,000 Swiss citizens with the right to vote. Since 1977, signatures have to be collected within a period of 18 months.
