Social integration Total fertility rate by country 1950–2005: children per woman Definitions/comments: Total fertility rate: average number of children per woman based on the number of live births and on the woman’s age in the year under observation. It is therefore the completed fertility of a hypothetical generation, computed by adding the fertility rates by age for women in a given year (the number of women at each age is assumed to be the same).
