Good knowledge of English (CH 2006, EU 2000) - By education and country

Definitions/comments: Educational levels: low: ISCED 0–2 (compulsory schooling, pre-vocational education); intermediate: ISCED 3–4 (apprenticeship, matura); high: ISCED 5–6 (university, other tertiary). Linguistic region: assignment by majority language of the political community in which the respondent lives.

Question wording (if English named as first to fourth foreign language): ‘Is your English very good, good or basic?’ Percentages indicated correspond to respondents with a very good or good level of English.

Sample size: linguadult.ch: 1200; Eurobarometer 54Lan: 1000–2000.
