Duration of stay and naturalisations

Foreigners with duration of stay over 25 years in total and by country of origin 1984–2006

Definitions/comments: In percent of all foreigners from the country concerned. Foreigners: all residents in Switzerland without Swiss nationality. Included are foreigners staying in Switzerland for at least 12 months.

Legend (upper diagram): In 2006, 16 percent of the foreigners living in Switzerland had been living in Switzerland for at least 25 years. With regard to the Italians in the resident population, 39 percent had been living in Switzerland for at least 25 years.
