Views on marriage in % by country 2002

Definitions/comments: Percentages correspond to respondents who agreed (strongly) with the statement (First get married, then children; Married people are happier) or who disagreed (strongly) with the statement (Against non-married couples living together).

Question wording: ‘People who want children ought to get married’; ‘Married people are generally happier than unmarried people’; ‘It is all right for a couple to live together without intending to get married’.

Answer categories: ‘strongly agree’, ‘agree’, ‘neither agree nor disagree’, ‘disagree’, ‘strongly disagree’, ‘can't choose’.

Sample size: ISSP 2002: 1008–2471; weighted data.
